A Block Development Council (BDC) member and his personal security guard were killed and a civilian was injured in a terrorist attack outside the municipality office in the Sopore area of Jammu and Kashmir's Baramulla district on Monday.
Terrorists opened fire on a BDC member and his security guard outside the municipality office in Sopore, where a meeting of councillors was underway. Both of them died on the spot while a civilian sustained injuries in the attack. The civilian was shifted to a Srinagar hospital. Police have cordoned off the area to track down the assailants.
"Terrorists fired at Municipal Office Sopore. In this terror incident, police personnel Shafqat Ahmad & councillor Riyaz Ahmad got martyred & councillor Shams-ud-din Peer got injured. Injured shifted to hospital for treatment. Area cordoned off & further details shall follow," said a tweet from the Kashmir Zone Police account.
Soon after the attack, police launched a search operation in the area to track the attackers.
