On Monday, the Uttarakhand govt gave in-principle approval to the proposal for rewarding upto ₹1 lakh to those helping road accident victims. The DGP will give the rewards from the road safety fund.
Sometimes onlookers and passersby avoid helping accident victims as they fear interrogation by the police and the hassles of court battles. Officials said the reward will motivate people to help victims of road accidents.
The State govt will also launch 'Traffic eyes app', where anyone will be able to inform the police about the crimes against women and drugs with photos and videos as evidence.
This in-principle approval was given in a meeting of Home Department and police where they were discussing to make the policing SMART (Sensitive & strict, Modern with mobility, Alert & accountable, Reliable & responsive, Trained & techno-savvy).
