Two BJP politicians have requested a ban on the recently released web series 'Tandav', alleging that the show has 'disrespected Hindu gods'. Many organisations and politicians have expressed displeasure over the content of the political drama directed by Ali Abbas Zafar.
On Sunday, BJP MLA Ram Kadam lodged a complaint against the makers of Tandav at the Ghatkopar police station in Mumbai, and urged authorities to take strict action against the actors, producers and director of the show. He also demanded to impose National Security Act on Ali Abbas Zafar, Saif Ali Khan and Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub. BJP MP Manoj Kotak, meanwhile, wrote a letter to the Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Prakash Javadekar, asking for a ban on Tandav and a regulatory authority for all OTT platforms.
In his letter, Kotak said there was an urgent need to regulate the digital platforms, that are taking undue advantage of the freedom they enjoy. "There is no law or autonomous body governing OTT platforms. Programmed telecasts on OTT Platform is full of Sex, Violence, Drugs, Abuse, Hate and Vulgarity. Sometimes they also hurt the sentiments of Hindu and religious sentiments," he added.
It is alleged that they have concerns with one particular scene where actor Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub appears as Lord Shiva during stage performance and is heard saying, "Azaadi, what the ?". Some also have concerns on the name of a university shown in the series, VNU where 'V' stands for Vivekananda.
Tandav premiered on Amazon Prime Video on January 15. It stars Saif Ali Khan, Dimple Kapadia, Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub, Sunil Grover, Tigmanshu Dhulia, Kumud Mishra, among others.
