Alleged WhatsApp chat between Arnab Goswami and Ex BARC CEO leaked on social media

Republic TV editor Arnab Goswami's WhatsApp chat with Ex BARC CEO, Partho Das Gupta allegedly leaked by the Mumbai Police. A few screenshots of the chat between the two were shared on Twitter by Abhijeet Dipke. The transcript begins in July 2019 and extends until mid-October the same year.

On social media, the chat has caused a stir as more than 500-page chat is with former BARC chief Partho Das Gupta. Mumbai police arrested Partho Das in the TRP scam, following which the chat has been attached to the charge sheet of the case. The chat shows Arnab Goswami's claims about how much reach he has in the central government and how he can help Partho Das.

In one of the chats, it was found that a confidential BARC letter was sent by the former BARC CEO to Arnab Goswami saying that he had jammed the News Broadcasters Association (NBA) while Goswami allegedly replied he might meet the PM regarding the matter.

While Dasgupta calls Prakash Javadekar as “useless” in one the chats, Goswami purportedly says that “all ministers are with us” while discussing the channel’s chance of succeeding.

According to few messages, Dasgupta was telling Goswami that TRAI's reform proposal to measure TV viewership digitally using special software installed in the set-top box would hurt both Republic channel and the BJP. He also asked Goswami to use his influence with the BJP leaders to sabotage the TRAI reform.

The chats also show how Goswami and Dasgupta played tricks to boost the ratings of Republic TV. According to the chat, Dasgupta is sharing a lot of information with Goswami on the condition of help from the central government's touch level, which is confidential.

The TRP scam came to light in October last year when BARC filed a complaint, alleging that certain TV channels, including Republic TV, were rigging their TRP number.
