The Railways have incurred an estimated loss of Rs 1200 crore due to the farm bill agitation in Punjab as protests on tracks are underway at 32 places across the state.
According to data from the national transporter, more than 2225 freight rakes carrying vital commodities could not be operated due to the blockages caused by the protestors. They said that around 1350 freight rakes have been forced to be cancelled or diverted.
The farmers in Punjab have been agitating against the three farm bills passed last month. They started blocking railway tracks and stations demanding the repeal of those laws.
