The Union Road & Transport Ministry on Thursday issued some guidelines. It mandates that cab aggregators like Ola and Uber can only charge a maximum surge price of 1.5 times the base fare fixed by the state governments.
In states where the city taxi fare has not been determined, ₹25-30 shall be treated as the base fare. The base fare will be for atleast 3 km. The cancellation fee of a ride for both the customer and the driver will be 10% of the total fare, not exceeding ₹100.
Now the driver will receive at least 80% of the fare on each ride and the remaining charges will go to the cab aggregator. The drivers must have a valid id proof, driving licence, 2 years of driving experience, police verification, etc.
Aggregators will also need to get a licence from the state govt. The licence fee has been fixed at Rs 5 lakh and will be valid for a period for five years. The aggregator should have a registered office in India.
